Sioux Falls, S.D. – Friday will start on a damp note across parts of eastern South Dakota before sunshine returns and sets the stage for a pleasant, dry summer weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, occasional showers will continue through Friday morning, especially near and east of Interstate 29, with some locations holding onto rain into the afternoon. A few pockets of heavier rainfall are possible before precipitation gradually exits the region. Breezy conditions will accompany the departing system, with afternoon highs ranging from 72 to 81 degrees.
Communities including Sioux Falls, Brookings, Yankton, Mitchell, Huron, Vermillion, Marshall, Minnesota, and Spencer, Iowa, may experience wet roads during the morning commute, particularly east of I-29. Drivers should slow down in heavier downpours and allow extra stopping distance where visibility is reduced.
Once the rain moves out, the weather turns much quieter. Saturday is expected to be sunny with highs between 78 and 83 degrees, followed by a warmer Sunday with abundant sunshine and temperatures climbing into the 80 to 90 degree range. Dry weather is forecast to continue into Monday before the next chance for thunderstorms returns Tuesday.
The stretch of sunshine and comfortable temperatures should provide favorable conditions for outdoor events, travel and agricultural activities across much of eastern South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, northwest Iowa and northeast Nebraska.
