Fort Worth, Texas – Anyone heading outdoors across North and Central Texas today should plan for dangerous heat as temperatures climb into the triple digits and heat index values approach 110 degrees, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses during the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through Thursday evening for much of the region, including the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Waco, Sherman, Paris, Killeen, Palestine, Graham, Canton and surrounding communities. Afternoon temperatures will range from 97 to 102 degrees, while humidity pushes heat index values between 105 and 110 degrees.
The hottest readings are expected across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where temperatures near 101 degrees could feel as hot as 109 degrees. Sherman is forecast to reach 101 degrees with a heat index around 108 degrees, while Waco tops out near 100 degrees with a heat index of 107 degrees. Graham could climb to 102 degrees, and communities from Killeen to Palestine will also experience oppressive heat through the late afternoon.
Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity between late morning and early evening, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned buildings. Check on older adults, young children and anyone without reliable cooling, and ensure pets have shade and fresh water throughout the day.
