Duluth, Minnesota – Snow-covered roads and reduced traction are creating immediate travel concerns across northern Minnesota Saturday night, with additional snowfall continuing into the late evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for much of the Arrowhead region, including Duluth’s North Shore communities, until 1 a.m. Sunday. Areas such as Silver Bay, Two Harbors, Ely, and Grand Marais could pick up an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow, while International Falls and Bigfork see lighter totals closer to 1 inch before conditions taper off by 10 p.m.

The most impacted routes include Highway 61 along the North Shore, as well as inland roads near Voyageurs National Park and the Boundary Waters, where snowfall rates and cold pavement will lead to slick conditions. Tribal lands, including the Grand Portage Reservation and Bois Forte areas, are also under the warning.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and carry emergency supplies if traveling overnight. Visibility may briefly drop during heavier bursts of snow.

Snow will taper off after midnight, but icy patches could linger into early Sunday morning. Additional advisories remain possible if temperatures stay low overnight.
