Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – A few more showers and isolated thunderstorms will move across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware this afternoon, but most communities will avoid an all-day rain event as the region begins to transition toward quieter weather heading into Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon, with no severe weather or flash flooding anticipated. Rain chances are highest across northern New Jersey and northeast Pennsylvania, while areas farther south and west will see more limited coverage.
Afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 70s and lower 80s across much of the region. Philadelphia is expected to reach 83 degrees, with highs near 82 in Trenton, 81 in Atlantic City, 83 in Wilmington, 82 in Vineland, 84 in Easton, and 78 on Long Beach Island. Rain chances range from around 10% to 30% across southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey to 50% to nearly 70% across northern New Jersey, including Sussex County.
Any thunderstorms that develop could produce brief downpours, lightning and localized gusty winds, but widespread hazardous weather is not expected. Travelers may encounter wet roads and reduced visibility during heavier showers, particularly through the afternoon commute.
Residents should keep an umbrella nearby and move indoors if thunder is heard. While today’s showers mark one final round of unsettled weather, improving conditions are expected to return as the week comes to a close.
No widespread weather alerts are in effect, though the National Weather Service will continue monitoring any thunderstorms that develop during the afternoon.
