Miami, Florida – Residents across South Florida should limit time outdoors today as dangerously high heat and humidity push feels-like temperatures between 106 and 110 degrees. A Heat Advisory remains in effect through the evening, with the greatest concern focused on the densely populated coastal metro corridor and portions of southwest Florida.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. for all coastal metro areas of South Florida and interior Collier County. Afternoon high temperatures will reach the lower to middle 90s, with some inland communities approaching the upper 90s. The combination of heat and humidity will create dangerous conditions that increase the risk of heat-related illness.
Heat index values are forecast to reach 109 degrees in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, 110 degrees near West Palm Beach, 107 degrees around Homestead and Immokalee, and 106 degrees near Naples and La Belle. A Major HeatRisk remains in place for much of the region.
While most coastal communities will stay hot and mainly dry, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon across Glades County and the Lake Okeechobee region. Any storms that form could produce brief heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds.
Residents should drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned buildings or shaded areas, and check on older adults, young children, and pets. Anyone experiencing symptoms of heat illness should move to a cooler location and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.
The Heat Advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m., and additional heat-related alerts may be issued if dangerous conditions continue into the coming days.
