California – Sunshine is quickly taking over Southern California, but the bigger story is the stubborn heat refusing to let go. Warm mornings are offering little relief, and temperatures will climb through the afternoon across Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties as a Heat Advisory remains in effect.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a Heat Advisory continues until 8 p.m. PDT today for the Los Angeles County beaches, inland coast, Malibu Coast, Palos Verdes Hills, Ventura County beaches and inland coast, and the southeastern Santa Barbara County coast. Afternoon temperatures are expected to range from the low 80s to lower 90s, while warm overnight conditions continue to limit recovery from the heat. The advisory warns of an increased risk of heat-related illness, especially for older adults, young children, people without air conditioning and anyone active outdoors.

Downtown Los Angeles is expected to reach 89 degrees under sunny skies today, with light southwest winds developing during the afternoon. Travel along Interstates 5, 10, 405 and U.S. 101 should remain weather-free, but prolonged exposure to the afternoon sun can quickly lead to dehydration. Beaches may offer slightly cooler temperatures, though humidity near the coast will keep conditions uncomfortable.

The heat eases only slightly through midweek, with highs remaining in the upper 80s across much of the Los Angeles Basin. By Friday, temperatures are forecast to surge into the mid-90s, signaling another round of more intense summer heat heading into the weekend.

Stay hydrated throughout the day, wear lightweight clothing, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon. Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles, even for a few minutes.

The 6-to-10-day outlook continues to favor above-normal temperatures, suggesting Southern California’s prolonged summer warmth will continue into early August.
