Fort Worth, Texas – The pavement is already shimmering under a relentless Texas sun, and the hottest part of the day has yet to arrive. Triple-digit temperatures are spreading across North Texas, where dangerous heat is building through the afternoon. Even routine trips outside could become hazardous as the combination of heat and humidity pushes conditions into dangerous territory.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. for much of North Texas and portions of east-central Texas. Afternoon temperatures will climb to around 103 degrees, while heat index values could reach 108 degrees. The advisory includes Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Frisco, Denton, McKinney, Weatherford, Mineral Wells, Waco and dozens of surrounding communities.
The intense heat will affect anyone spending extended time outdoors. Construction crews, utility workers, youth sports participants and anyone attending outdoor events face the greatest risk of heat-related illness. Drivers should also prepare for increased vehicle stress, especially during long trips on I-35W, I-35E, I-20, I-30, Loop 820 and the President George Bush Turnpike. Keep extra water in your vehicle and never leave children or pets inside parked cars, even briefly.
Meteorologists continue tracking a broad ridge of high pressure parked across the southern United States. That pattern keeps North Texas locked in a prolonged stretch of summer heat through midweek. Unlike parts of the Midwest, no organized storm system is expected to provide widespread cooling during the next several days. While an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out later this week, severe weather and tornado potential remain very low across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Wednesday brings another afternoon near 103 degrees with abundant sunshine. Warm nights in the lower 80s will offer little relief, increasing cumulative heat stress after several consecutive hot days.
Looking farther ahead, the 6-to-10-day outlook favors above-normal temperatures across North Texas, suggesting the persistent summer heat will continue into late next week.
