Oklahoma City, OK – Drivers across central and southern Oklahoma could face rapidly rising water and flooded roadways starting by the Friday evening commute, as heavy rain targets already saturated ground through early Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Flood Watch takes effect at 4 p.m. Friday and continues through Saturday morning, covering Oklahoma City, Norman, Lawton, Ardmore, and stretching south into Wichita Falls, Texas. Rainfall totals between 2 and 4 inches may fall in a short window, increasing runoff into creeks, streams, and low-lying streets.
Urban corridors including I-35 in Oklahoma City, I-44 near Lawton, and flood-prone crossings in Moore, Shawnee, and Ada could see water over pavement overnight. Smaller communities like Chickasha, Duncan, and Seminole may experience rapid rises in drainage areas and rural roads.
Emergency managers warn that even shallow water can stall vehicles or sweep them away. Residents should avoid driving through flooded roads, charge devices ahead of possible outages, and monitor alerts overnight.
The heaviest rainfall is expected between 7 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday, with additional warnings likely as storms develop.
