Dallas, Texas – Anyone heading outdoors across North and Central Texas this week will face relentless afternoon heat, with triple-digit temperatures becoming the norm and heat index values climbing as high as 115 degrees. The combination of intense sunshine, warm overnight lows and high humidity will make heat-related illness a growing concern during the afternoon and early evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a strong upper-level high pressure ridge will maintain above-normal temperatures throughout the workweek. High temperatures will routinely reach or exceed 100 degrees, while afternoon heat index values are expected to range from 100 to 115 degrees. Overnight lows will provide little relief, remaining in the upper 70s to middle 80s.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is forecast to climb from 103 degrees Monday and Tuesday to 104 degrees Wednesday and Thursday before peaking near 105 degrees Friday. Sherman and Denison are expected to remain around 102 degrees each afternoon through the end of the week.

Farther south, Waco, Killeen and Temple will also endure persistent heat, with highs ranging from 99 degrees Monday to 101 degrees by Friday. The prolonged stretch of hot weather will increase stress on people working outdoors, athletes, utility crews and anyone without reliable air conditioning.

Residents should drink plenty of water before feeling thirsty, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, wear lightweight clothing and check on older adults, children and neighbors. Pet owners should ensure animals have access to fresh water and shade, while never leaving children or pets inside parked vehicles.

The National Weather Service expects the prolonged heat to continue through the workweek, and additional heat-related advisories or warnings may be issued if conditions become more hazardous.
