Lake County, IL Fatal Shooting: Overnight Homicide Under Investigation

Ingleside, IL – Lake County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that left one man dead early Friday morning in Ingleside. One person is in custody as investigators continue working to determine what led to the shooting.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 3:10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, to the 25900 block of West Laneville Drive for a reported disturbance in progress. While deputies were responding, 911 dispatchers learned that someone inside the home had been shot and that the suspected shooter was believed to still be armed.

Authorities said deputies quickly arrived and located an individual matching the suspect’s description outside the residence. The individual was taken into custody without incident, and deputies recovered a firearm from the person’s possession.

Deputies also safely evacuated several other people from inside the home, including children. Investigators then discovered an adult male inside the residence suffering from what appeared to be fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the residence, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the official cause and manner of death.

According to the sheriff’s office, the individual taken into custody remains detained while detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the disturbance and subsequent shooting. As of Friday morning, no criminal charges had been filed, and the investigation remains active.
