Pittsburgh, PA – The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Muskingum County, Ohio, during the severe weather outbreak on July 21, 2026, Tuesday, including an EF1 tornado near South Zanesville and an EF0 tornado near Fultonham.
According to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh office, survey teams determined the stronger tornado tracked through the South Zanesville area between 3:10 p.m. and 3:21 p.m. The EF1 tornado reached estimated peak winds of 105 mph, carved a path approximately 8.7 miles long, and reached a maximum width of 400 yards. Surveyors reported damage consistent with an EF1 tornado but said no injuries or fatalities occurred.
The weather service also confirmed an EF0 tornado near Fultonham earlier that afternoon. According to the survey, the tornado was on the ground from 2:27 p.m. until 2:47 p.m., producing estimated peak winds of 75 mph. Its damage path extended 15.8 miles intermittently and reached a maximum width of 75 yards. No injuries or deaths were reported from that tornado either.
Photos released by the National Weather Service show snapped trees, downed limbs, and structural damage along portions of both tornado tracks.
The Pittsburgh office said the confirmations bring its 2026 tornado count to 27 across the forecast area. Forecasters also cautioned that additional severe weather is possible Monday and Tuesday, urging residents to stay weather aware and monitor forecasts for the latest watches and warnings.
