Hurlock, MD – The National Weather Service has confirmed that a brief EF0 tornado touched down just northeast of Hurlock during severe weather on Saturday, leaving damage to several warehouses along Williamsburg Road.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia, the tornado occurred on Saturday, July 18, 2026, with estimated peak winds between 80 and 85 mph. Survey teams determined the tornado reached EF0 strength on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
The tornado developed at approximately 6:30 p.m. EDT near Williamsburg Road before lifting about two minutes later at 6:32 p.m. Officials said the tornado traveled approximately 0.45 miles and reached a maximum width of 50 yards.
The primary damage occurred to warehouses located along Williamsburg Road just northeast of Hurlock in Dorchester County. No injuries were mentioned in the National Weather Service survey summary.
The tornado was confirmed following a post-storm damage assessment conducted by National Weather Service meteorologists, who examined the damage path and determined the wind speeds and tornado rating.
While classified as the lowest category on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, EF0 tornadoes are still capable of producing damage to buildings, trees, and other structures with winds ranging from 65 to 85 mph.
Residents across Maryland’s Eastern Shore are encouraged to remain weather aware during severe thunderstorm events, as even brief tornadoes can develop quickly with little warning.
