North Bend, Oregon – Deputies serving an eviction order faced a life-threatening situation Thursday when a suspect allegedly fired an arrow at officers, narrowly missing them during a confrontation at a residential unit.

According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around midday to a unit on Broadway Avenue to carry out a civil eviction when they encountered a 27-year-old man armed with a compound bow and an arrow drawn. Authorities say the suspect threatened to shoot deputies and then released an arrow, nearly striking two officers.

Deputies responded by deploying less-lethal bean bag rounds, while the Coos County Emergency Response Team was called in and used chemical munitions to force the suspect out. The man fled out the back of the residence but was quickly apprehended with assistance from a Coos Bay Police K9 unit.

He was taken to Bay Area Hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Coos County Jail. Charges include attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, resisting arrest, eluding on foot, and reckless endangering.

No deputies were injured. Authorities say additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
