Rome, NY – A Verona woman was transported to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon at a busy intersection in Oneida County, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, deputies responded at approximately 3:07 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to the intersection of State Route 365 and Greenway New London Road in the City of Rome for a reported two-car motor vehicle crash.
Investigators said Karen Simons of Verona was traveling south on Greenway New London Road and stopped at the stop sign before proceeding into the intersection in an attempt to turn onto State Route 365. Authorities said Simons’ Jeep Compass entered the path of a Toyota Avalon driven by C. Vanderhoof of Verona, who was traveling west on Route 365. The vehicles collided head-on, causing significant front-end damage to both vehicles.
All parties involved were evaluated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office. Simons was transported by AmCare Ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital for additional evaluation.
Deputies said Simons was issued traffic citations and is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court at a later date.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Rome City Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance, and Mike’s Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
