Gary, IN – The Lake County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim in a fatal shooting in Gary after an autopsy determined the 19-year-old died from multiple gunshot wounds.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the Medicolegal Death Investigation Team was dispatched at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, to the Broadway Food and Fuel Station, located at 4500 Broadway in Gary.
Officials identified the deceased as Leandre Holley, 19, of East Chicago, Indiana. A deputy coroner pronounced Holley dead at approximately 10:17 p.m.
A forensic autopsy was completed on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Lake County Forensic Science Center in Crown Point.
According to the coroner’s office, the cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
The investigation is being conducted by the Gary Police Department, the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, the Lake County Crime Lab, and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and no suspect information was included in the coroner’s release.
