Joliet, IL – Joliet police have arrested a 22-year-old Joliet man in connection with the July 11 shooting that seriously injured an 18-year-old man, according to an updated news release issued Tuesday.
According to the Joliet Police Department, detectives identified Jaime Torres-Reyes, 22, of Joliet, as a suspect during their investigation. On Friday, July 17, 2026, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Torres-Reyes with aggravated battery (Class X felony), armed robbery (Class X felony), two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon (Class 2 felonies), and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon (Class 4 felony).
Police said members of the Joliet Police Tactical Unit arrested Torres-Reyes at approximately 4:04 p.m. during a traffic stop near South Joliet Street and Munroe Street. He was transported to the Joliet Police Department for processing before being transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
The arrest stems from a shooting reported at approximately 6:46 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, near East Benton Street and Polson Place. According to police, officers found an 18-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his back and left arm. Officers rendered medical aid before the victim was taken to Silver Cross Hospital and later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for additional treatment.
Investigators recovered spent shell casings and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
