According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, the first round of storms is expected from Tuesday morning into the afternoon, followed by a second and potentially stronger round between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., with the highest threat focused along and east of Interstate 71. Damaging wind gusts remain the primary hazard, while tornadoes and large hail are also possible. Heavy rainfall may produce localized flooding where storms repeatedly track over the same areas.
The greatest severe weather risk includes communities such as Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Ashtabula, Mansfield and Wooster. Interstate 71, Interstate 77, Interstate 80, Interstate 90 and portions of the Ohio Turnpike could experience hazardous travel during the afternoon and evening commute as heavy rain, strong wind and falling tree limbs reduce visibility and create dangerous road conditions.
Residents should secure loose outdoor objects, postpone outdoor activities when storms approach and ensure mobile phones are fully charged in case of power outages. Have multiple ways to receive Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings, especially during the evening hours when storms are expected to intensify.
