Indianapolis, IN – Fire investigators are working to determine what caused an early morning commercial fire that damaged a nightclub on the city’s south side.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 3:43 a.m. to Silk The Showclub, located at 3512 Madison Ave., after reports of a fire inside the single-story building.
When crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the structure while several employees remained outside. Officials said employees told firefighters the business had closed around 3:30 a.m. and they were talking in the parking lot when they noticed smoke beginning to push from the building.
Firefighters quickly located the main body of the fire and launched an aggressive interior attack, bringing the flames under control.
However, the fire had spread between layers of dropped ceiling, requiring crews to spend about an hour locating and extinguishing hot spots and smoke trapped inside the ceiling voids.
No injuries were reported among employees or firefighters.
The Indianapolis Fire Department’s Fire Investigations Unit is working to determine the cause of the blaze. Officials have not released an estimate of the damage or said when the business may reopen.
The investigation remains ongoing.
