Dorchester County, SC – Law enforcement agencies across South Carolina and the Southeast have concluded a weeklong traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing speeding-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
According to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, the agency’s Traffic Unit participated in Operation Southern Slow Down, a regional traffic safety initiative conducted Monday, July 13, through Sunday, July 19, 2026.
The annual campaign brought together local, state, and regional law enforcement agencies to increase high-visibility traffic enforcement while educating motorists about safe driving practices. Deputies focused on identifying dangerous driving behaviors, particularly speeding, on roadways throughout Dorchester County.
“Traffic safety is public safety,” Sheriff Sam Richardson said in a statement. “Operation Southern Slow Down demonstrates what can be accomplished when law enforcement agencies come together with one common goal, saving lives.”
Richardson also praised the Traffic Unit and partnering agencies across South Carolina and neighboring states for their collaborative efforts to improve roadway safety.
Officials said the sheriff’s office remains committed to proactive traffic enforcement throughout the year and will continue working with neighboring agencies to reduce crashes and promote safer driving habits.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, eliminate distractions, wear seat belts, and drive responsibly to help prevent serious crashes and save lives.
Operation Southern Slow Down is held annually across multiple Southeastern states to encourage safer driving through a combination of enforcement and public education.
