Fort Myers, FL – A Lee County man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty in connection with a fatal shooting outside a Fort Myers restaurant earlier this year.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, to the parking lot of a restaurant on Daniels Parkway following reports of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they found an adult man suffering from fatal gunshot wounds outside the business. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies also located the suspect, identified as Steve Iglesia, at the scene and immediately detained him.
Major Crimes Unit detectives determined the shooting occurred after Iglesia was at the restaurant with family and friends when a verbal argument began with a family member and continued into the parking lot. Investigators said the confrontation allegedly turned physical before Iglesia brandished a handgun and fatally shot the victim.
Authorities determined the incident was domestic in nature.
Last week, Iglesia accepted a plea agreement calling for a minimum sentence of 25 years after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and domestic violence battery.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said the case reflects the partnership between the sheriff’s office and the State Attorney’s Office in holding offenders accountable and securing justice for victims.
The case has now concluded with sentencing.
