Eureka, Calif. – Low clouds are hanging over Humboldt Bay this morning, and pockets of fog continue to limit visibility along parts of the North Coast. Damp pavement, cool ocean air, and occasional mist are greeting early travelers, while gradual improvement is expected later today as brighter skies slowly develop.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, there is a 20% chance of light showers before 11 a.m. Monday, followed by mostly cloudy skies and a high near 63 degrees. Southwest winds of 3 to 6 mph will keep the marine air flowing inland, maintaining the cool coastal pattern through much of the afternoon.

The greatest travel concern today is reduced visibility from patchy fog, particularly along U.S. Highway 101, State Route 255, and roads near Humboldt Bay. Drivers should allow extra travel time during the morning, use low-beam headlights in fog, and leave additional following distance on damp roadways.

Conditions improve modestly this afternoon, but fog returns late tonight and becomes locally dense again before Tuesday morning. After the fog lifts Tuesday, skies become partly sunny with another high near 63 degrees, offering a pleasant but cool midsummer afternoon.

Wednesday brings another familiar North Coast pattern. Patchy fog lingers into the morning before mostly sunny skies develop with highs around 64 degrees. Thursday follows a similar trend, with morning fog giving way to partial sunshine and temperatures remaining in the lower 60s.

No thunderstorms, excessive heat, or significant wind events are expected across Humboldt County this week. The active monsoonal weather affecting the Southwest and the dangerous heat impacting parts of the Plains remain well away from the North Coast.

Long-range outlooks suggest temperatures will remain close to seasonal averages through much of the week, with no major weather systems expected to disrupt the steady coastal pattern.
