Boise, Idaho – The sun is already glaring across the Treasure Valley, and shimmering pavement is signaling what will become another dangerous summer afternoon. Triple-digit heat is rapidly building across southwest Idaho and southeast Oregon today, while lingering wildfire smoke keeps skies hazy and adds another layer of concern for anyone spending time outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. MDT in Idaho (noon MDT in Oregon) until 9 p.m. MDT Monday. Temperatures are expected to climb to 104 degrees across the Boise area, with communities including Nampa, Caldwell, Meridian, Fruitland, Ontario and Vale also under the advisory.
The combination of intense heat and periods of smoke can quickly increase the risk of heat-related illness. Older adults, young children, outdoor workers and pets remain especially vulnerable. Even healthy people can become dehydrated after extended time in the afternoon sun.
If you’re traveling on Interstate 84, expect blazing pavement temperatures and reduced air quality in areas where smoke becomes more concentrated. Keep extra water in your vehicle, check coolant levels before long trips, and never leave children or animals inside parked cars, even briefly.
Monday stays dry with sunshine increasing through the afternoon. Patchy smoke lingers tonight before another hazy, hot day arrives Tuesday with highs near 99 degrees. Wednesday remains hot with another high near 99 degrees, although skies should become partly sunny. By Thursday, temperatures surge back to around 102 degrees, extending this prolonged stretch of dangerous summer heat.
Meteorologists continue monitoring monsoonal moisture across parts of the West, but no significant thunderstorm threat is expected around Boise through midweek. The primary hazards remain extreme heat and smoke.
Long-range outlooks continue favoring above-normal temperatures into late next week, suggesting the summer pattern is far from over.
