Paducah, Kentucky – The pavement is already warming under a hazy late Monday morning sky, and the hottest weather of the week is building across western Kentucky. According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday for much of western Kentucky, southern Illinois and southeast Missouri. Afternoon temperatures will reach around 93 degrees today, while humidity pushes the heat index as high as 108 degrees. A brief, isolated shower or thunderstorm may develop this afternoon, but many communities will stay dry.

Tuesday turns even hotter with highs approaching 97 degrees and heat index values potentially climbing to 116 degrees. By afternoon, a stronger cold front will approach the Quad State region, bringing a 30% chance of thunderstorms that could become severe.
The National Weather Service says the primary threats Tuesday include damaging winds, large hail and localized flash flooding, while isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Drivers on Interstate 24, Interstate 69, U.S. 60 and U.S. 45 should stay alert for rapidly changing conditions during the afternoon and evening commute.
Relief arrives Wednesday as cooler, drier air settles into the region. Sunshine returns with highs near 85 degrees, followed by pleasant summer weather into Thursday. Longer-range outlooks suggest warmer-than-normal temperatures may return later next week, but the midweek break will offer welcome relief after this dangerous stretch of heat.
