Houston, Texas – The morning air already feels heavy across Houston, and the bright summer sun is quickly taking control. Sidewalks are warming, humidity is climbing, and the hottest hours of the day are still ahead for Southeast Texas.
Another stretch of intense summer heat is unfolding Monday as temperatures climb into the upper 90s across the Houston metro. According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, today’s high will reach 98 degrees, while the heat index could climb as high as 102 degrees during the afternoon.
The combination of high humidity and light west winds will make outdoor conditions increasingly uncomfortable from late morning through early evening. Travelers along Interstates 10, 45, 69 and Beltway 8 should expect shimmering pavement, hot vehicles, and reduced comfort during extended time outside. Keep water with you and avoid leaving children or pets inside parked vehicles, even briefly.
Monday night stays warm with temperatures only falling to around 77 degrees, providing little relief before Tuesday turns even hotter. Highs are expected to reach 100 degrees Tuesday, followed by another 99-degree afternoon on Wednesday. While most of Monday and Tuesday remain dry, meteorologists are monitoring a gradual increase in Gulf moisture later in the week.
Beginning Wednesday night, isolated thunderstorms become possible before rain chances increase Thursday. The developing pattern could bring scattered downpours, lightning, and brief travel slowdowns, but widespread severe weather is not currently expected. Even so, a few stronger storms with gusty winds cannot be completely ruled out, so residents should continue monitoring updated forecasts through midweek.
Long-range outlooks continue to favor above-normal temperatures into late next week, meaning Houston’s summer heat is unlikely to ease anytime soon. If your plans include outdoor work, youth sports, or afternoon travel, schedule frequent breaks and stay hydrated throughout the hottest part of each day.
