Paducah, Kentucky – Strong storms and gusty winds are set to impact western Kentucky within the next 24 hours, with the greatest risk arriving Thursday afternoon into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, scattered storms will continue through Wednesday before intensifying Thursday, when a few storms could turn severe. Wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph are expected even outside of storms, with stronger gusts possible in heavier cells.

Communities including Paducah, Mayfield, Murray, and Hopkinsville could see damaging winds, large hail, and a brief tornado risk between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday. Travel along I-24 and I-69 may become hazardous during peak storm activity, especially with sudden downpours and reduced visibility.

The unsettled pattern continues into Friday with additional rounds of showers and storms, though severe risk appears lower. Residents should secure outdoor items, charge devices, and stay alert for warnings as conditions evolve.

Storm chances persist into Saturday before calmer, more seasonable weather returns by Sunday, though additional advisories may be issued as Thursday’s system approaches.
