Kansas City, Mo. – Storms will begin impacting the Kansas City metro within hours tonight, with multiple rounds of thunderstorms expected to bring heavy rain and a growing severe weather threat through the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, scattered storms will develop late this evening and continue into early Wednesday morning. Some of these storms could produce small hail, marking the first round in a prolonged stretch of active weather.

The greater concern builds Wednesday, when stronger storms may develop across western Missouri and eastern Kansas, followed by another round of severe weather potential on Friday. Each wave could bring heavy rainfall, with total accumulations between 2 and 4 inches possible by Saturday.

Cities including Kansas City, Independence, Overland Park, and St. Joseph are likely to see repeated storm activity. Major routes such as I-70, I-35, and U.S. 69 could experience ponding water and reduced visibility during heavier downpours.

Residents should prepare for multiple days of changing conditions, avoid flooded roadways, and stay alert for warnings, especially during peak storm periods. The active pattern will continue into Saturday, with additional advisories likely as rainfall totals increase.
