Buffalo, New York – Easter Sunday travel across western and north central New York could turn messy at times as periods of rain develop, while colder inland areas face a rain-to-snow mix that may create slick conditions during peak holiday travel hours.

According to the National Weather Service, this 6-to-10 day outlook favors above-normal precipitation across the Northeast through midweek, with temperature swings supporting mixed precipitation, especially overnight and east of Lake Ontario.

In Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and along the I-90 corridor, rain will be the primary concern, with occasional heavier showers reducing visibility during peak travel hours Sunday between 6 a.m. and noon. Ponding water may slow traffic on major routes including I-190 and the Kensington Expressway.

Farther east, including Rochester, Syracuse, Watertown, and areas along I-81, temperatures dipping into the low to mid-30s overnight could allow rain to mix with or briefly change to wet snow. Light slushy accumulation is possible on untreated roads and elevated surfaces, particularly across higher terrain and Tug Hill.

Daytime temperatures will trend near to slightly above normal, keeping most lower elevations wet but still unfavorable for outdoor Easter activities.

Unsettled conditions persist through April 9, and additional advisories may be issued as confidence increases in precipitation type and timing.
