Charleston, West Virginia – Strong storms could develop as early as Tuesday evening, with damaging wind gusts posing a threat to travel and power lines across much of West Virginia.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, two separate rounds of storms are expected, first Tuesday evening and again Wednesday evening. The primary concern tonight is isolated strong to damaging wind gusts, while Wednesday’s storms carry a higher risk for both damaging winds and hail.

Communities including Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg, Beckley, and Clarksburg are all in the risk zone, with the greatest impacts likely during the evening hours when storms are most organized. Roads such as I-64, I-77, and I-79 could see sudden downpours and reduced visibility, especially during peak travel times.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, remain weather aware, and have multiple ways to receive warnings as storms develop. Brief power outages are possible where stronger wind gusts occur.

Storm chances will continue through Wednesday evening, and additional watches or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve across the region.
