Miami, Fla. – Bright sunshine is already pushing temperatures higher across South Florida late this morning, and the tropical humidity is making it feel even hotter. The day begins with plenty of dry weather, but building clouds later this afternoon could bring isolated thunderstorms that briefly disrupt travel before skies quiet again.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, temperatures will climb to around 89 degrees this afternoon, while humidity boosts the heat index to as high as 103 degrees. Only a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected between late morning and early afternoon, allowing many locations to stay dry for much of the day.

Even with limited rain coverage, any thunderstorm that develops could produce frequent lightning, brief heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Widespread severe weather is not anticipated, but an isolated stronger storm remains possible, especially where sea breeze boundaries collide during the afternoon.

Drivers on Interstate 95, Florida’s Turnpike, U.S. 1 and State Road 836 should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions if a thunderstorm develops nearby. A quick tropical downpour can sharply reduce visibility and create slick pavement within minutes. If thunder is heard, move indoors until storms pass.

Heat will be the primary weather concern for many residents. Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon, drink water frequently and take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned locations. Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.

Sunday brings another hot day with highs near 90 degrees and only a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm. Monday stays warm with breezy conditions and another 20% chance of afternoon storms before drier weather arrives Tuesday. Sunshine remains dominant through midweek with temperatures holding near 90 to 91 degrees.

The Climate Prediction Center continues to favor above-normal temperatures across South Florida during the 6-to-10-day outlook, suggesting the summer heat will continue well into next week.

Stay weather-aware if you’re heading outdoors this afternoon, especially near beaches or parks where storms can form quickly. Are skies staying sunny in your neighborhood, or are clouds already beginning to build?
