International Falls, Minnesota – Snow moving in after sunset could begin coating roads by late evening, setting up slippery travel conditions ahead of the Tuesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Monday through 7 p.m. Tuesday for Koochiching and northern St. Louis counties. Snowfall totals up to 2 inches are expected, with the steadiest accumulation likely between midnight and late Tuesday morning.
International Falls, Ely, and areas near Voyageurs National Park and the Boundary Waters will see the most consistent snowfall. Roads including U.S. Highway 53 and Highway 169 could become slick overnight, with reduced traction persisting into both the morning and evening commutes Tuesday.
Forecasters note the exact placement of the snow band remains uncertain. A slight shift south could bring higher totals, while a northward shift may introduce a brief mix with ice, further complicating travel.
Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check 511 for road updates before heading out. The advisory remains in effect through Tuesday evening, and additional updates may follow if snowfall intensity changes.
