University Park, IL Police Hiring Deputy Chief; Applications Due Aug. 10

University Park, IL – The Village of University Park is seeking an experienced law enforcement professional to serve as its next deputy chief of police, with applications being accepted through the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

According to the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, the deputy chief will work alongside the police chief and command staff to oversee department operations, develop personnel, strengthen community relationships, and help guide the strategic direction of the department.

The position carries a starting salary of $100,000 to $115,000, along with a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), retirement savings options, vacation and compensatory time, wellness incentives, and a take-home vehicle.

Applicants are preferred to have a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field, although equivalent education and experience may be considered. The posting also states candidates should have at least 10 years of law enforcement experience, including five years in a supervisory role, along with strong leadership, budgeting, and organizational skills.

Additional preferred qualifications include completion of advanced leadership programs such as the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course, or the PERF Senior Management Institute for Police.

Candidates must possess, or be eligible to obtain, Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board certification, hold a valid driver’s license, and successfully complete a background investigation.
