Wisconsin Plane Crash Thursday: Pilot Seriously Hurt Near Baraboo Airport

Baraboo, WI – A 70-year-old South Dakota pilot suffered serious injuries Thursday afternoon after a small airplane left the runway near the Baraboo/Dells Airport and crashed into a yard in Sauk County, authorities said.

According to the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, the Sauk County Dispatch Center received a report at approximately 3:07 p.m. Thursday, July 16, of an airplane that had gone off the runway just north of the Baraboo/Dells Airport.

Deputies, along with Dells/Delton EMS and the Delton Fire Department, responded to the scene.

Authorities said the aircraft was found in a yard north of North Reedsburg Road. The pilot, who was the only person aboard the plane, was extricated from the wreckage and transported by Dells/Delton EMS to a hospital with serious injuries.

The sheriff’s office identified the pilot only as a 70-year-old man from South Dakota. No additional information about his condition has been released.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were notified and later responded to investigate the cause of the crash.

Officials have not released details about what caused the aircraft to leave the runway, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office said it was assisted at the scene by the Delton Fire Department, Dells/Delton EMS, and Craig’s Towing.
