
Cedar Lake, IN – An adult man was killed early Friday after being struck by a train on Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Cedar Lake, according to local police.
According to the Cedar Lake Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:15 a.m. Friday, July 17, to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a train near the 10600 block of West 133rd Avenue.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male who was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary findings indicate the man had been on the railroad tracks when he was struck by the train, police said.
The victim’s identity has not been released as authorities continue their investigation and work to notify family members.
According to police, the investigation is being conducted jointly by the Cedar Lake Police Department and the Norfolk Southern Police Department, which also responded to the scene.
Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision, and no information has been provided regarding delays to rail traffic or whether anyone aboard the train was injured.
