Wheatfield, IN – Drivers traveling through the Wheatfield area should expect to see an increased law enforcement presence as construction activity near the NIPSCO project continues, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the additional patrols are being deployed in response to a significant increase in traffic associated with the ongoing construction work. Officials said the enforcement effort is intended to improve traffic safety, reduce crashes, and help ensure the safe movement of both the public and construction-related traffic.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with surrounding law enforcement agencies to assist with the operation. As a result, motorists may see both marked and unmarked patrol vehicles from multiple agencies conducting traffic enforcement throughout the area.

Officials emphasized that the initiative is focused on promoting safe driving behaviors in and around the construction zone, where increased traffic volumes have created additional safety concerns.

Drivers are encouraged to obey posted speed limits, watch for changing traffic patterns, avoid distractions behind the wheel, and use extra caution when traveling through the area.

The sheriff’s office said the enhanced enforcement will remain in place for the duration of the construction project.

Authorities are reminding motorists to slow down, remain alert, and help keep the roadway safe for fellow drivers, construction crews, and emergency personnel.
