Davenport, IA – Severe thunderstorms could hit eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois as early as 9 p.m. Monday, with large hail strong enough to damage vehicles and roofs along the Highway 20 corridor before midnight.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, a Level 2 out of 5 severe risk is in place Monday night, mainly north of Interstate 80, including Dubuque and areas near Highway 20. Storms are expected to develop along a stalled warm front and track east at around 40 mph, with the greatest impacts between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Large hail up to golf ball size is the primary hazard, especially in northern counties, while gusty winds may down tree limbs and cause isolated outages. Areas farther south, including Davenport, Moline, and Burlington, face a lower but still notable risk.

A second round of storms is expected Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. as a cold front moves through. This round carries a Level 1 risk but could still produce quarter-size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph across the Quad Cities region.

Residents are urged to enable weather alerts before going to sleep and move vehicles indoors if possible. Additional warnings may be issued as storms develop overnight and again Tuesday afternoon.
