Kane County, IL Fatal Crash: Aurora Man Charged After Deadly DUI Collision

Aurora, IL – Aurora police have charged a local man following a fatal two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman and seriously injured another driver late Saturday night.

According to the Aurora Police Department, officers and firefighters responded at approximately 10:49 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, to the intersection of Church Road and Butterfield Road for a reported crash involving a blue Hyundai sedan and a gray Toyota pickup truck.

Authorities said the 23-year-old female driver of the Hyundai was transported to Mercy Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. The 30-year-old Aurora man driving the Toyota was taken to another local hospital with serious injuries and remains in critical condition.

According to investigators, preliminary findings indicate the Hyundai was traveling westbound on Butterfield Road and attempting to turn left onto southbound Church Road when it was struck by the eastbound Toyota pickup.

Police said the Kane County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy on Sunday, July 13, while the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division reconstructed the crash scene, which remained closed for several hours overnight.

As the investigation continued, authorities charged the Aurora driver with five counts of aggravated DUI causing death, five counts of aggravated DUI – third violation, one count of reckless homicide, and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He was also issued misdemeanor and petty offense citations, including driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Police emphasized that the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
