Minneapolis, MN – Dangerous heat will continue across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin through Thursday, with little overnight relief as Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings remain in effect across the region.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, afternoon temperatures will remain in the 90s, while humidity pushes heat index values to around 100 degrees through Thursday evening. Overnight lows will only fall into the low to mid-70s, limiting recovery from the daytime heat.
The highest heat index values are expected during the afternoon and early evening, with communities including Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Cloud, Mankato, Willmar, Albert Lea, Red Wing, Eau Claire, and Rice Lake forecast to experience dangerous conditions.
The combination of prolonged heat and warm nights increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and anyone without access to air conditioning. Officials urge residents to drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
Anyone spending time outdoors should seek shade or air-conditioned buildings whenever possible. Residents are also reminded to check on neighbors and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles, where temperatures can become life-threatening within minutes.
The National Weather Service expects the dangerous heat to persist through Thursday evening, with cooler conditions anticipated later in the week as the weather pattern begins to change.
