Glasgow, MT – Residents across eastern Montana should prepare for the potential of severe thunderstorms Tuesday evening as a low-pressure system moves across the region, bringing the threat of large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, thunderstorms are expected to develop between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 4 a.m. Wednesday, with the greatest threat focused north of Jordan, Circle, and Sidney. While numerous storms are expected, forecasters say a few could become severe before moving northeast into Canada by Wednesday morning.

The primary hazards include wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, large hail, dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, and locally heavy rainfall that could lead to isolated flooding. Storms are expected to move quickly, but any stronger cells could produce hazardous conditions with little warning.

Communities including Glasgow, Sidney, Circle, Malta, Plentywood, Scobey, Wolf Point, and nearby areas should remain alert for rapidly changing weather throughout the evening and overnight hours.

The National Weather Service advises residents to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially while sleeping, as severe weather may continue after sunset. Outdoor objects should be secured ahead of the storms, and anyone caught outdoors should seek sturdy shelter immediately if thunder is heard.

While not every community will experience severe weather, conditions will be favorable for a few intense storms capable of producing significant impacts across portions of eastern Montana.
