Denver, Colorado – The morning starts comfortably across the Front Range, but don’t let the cool air fool you. By afternoon, pavement will shimmer, temperatures will surge into the triple digits, and outdoor conditions will become increasingly hazardous across the Denver metro area.
According to the National Weather Service, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. for Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins and surrounding communities. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees, while southwest winds increase to 10 to 15 mph with occasional gusts near 20 mph. An Air Quality Alert also remains in effect as ozone levels are expected to reach unhealthy levels for sensitive groups along the Front Range.
The combination of intense sunshine, dry air and afternoon heat will quickly increase the risk of heat-related illness. Anyone working or exercising outdoors should drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned locations and avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon heating.
Drivers on Interstates 25, 70, 76 and C-470 should expect intense sun glare and very hot pavement during the afternoon commute. While dry weather will limit travel disruptions today, vehicles can heat dangerously fast after only a few minutes in direct sunlight.
The hot pattern continues through Tuesday with another high near 98 degrees, followed by sunny conditions and highs around 96 degrees Wednesday and Thursday. By the weekend, isolated afternoon thunderstorms return, bringing a slight chance for brief cooling and localized gusty winds.
National weather patterns continue to favor widespread heat across much of the West, while severe thunderstorms and flash flooding remain focused over portions of the Plains and Midwest. Colorado stays on the hot, dry side of that pattern through midweek.
