University Park, IL – The Village of University Park is accepting applications for its next Deputy Chief of Police, offering a starting salary between $110,000 and $115,000 along with a comprehensive benefits package.

According to the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, the position is intended for an experienced, forward-thinking law enforcement professional to help lead a modern, community-focused police department. The Deputy Chief will work alongside the Police Chief and command staff to oversee department operations, personnel development, and strategic initiatives.

The village’s benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), retirement savings options, vacation and compensatory time, wellness incentives, and a take-home vehicle.

Preferred candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field, although comparable education and experience may be considered. The posting also calls for at least 10 years of law enforcement experience, including five years in a supervisory role, along with leadership, budgeting, crisis management, and public administration experience.

Applicants must possess Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board certification or be eligible to obtain a waiver, maintain a valid driver’s license, pass an extensive background investigation, and meet the position’s physical requirements.
