Fort Worth, Texas – North Texans should prepare for a round of thunderstorms beginning before sunrise Monday, with heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning expected to move south across the region through the afternoon, potentially affecting both the morning and midday commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, storms will develop late Sunday night before progressing south throughout Monday. While not every community will receive heavy rainfall, the strongest storms could produce gusty winds, intense downpours and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex has the highest likelihood of storms between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m., with activity potentially beginning as early as 3 a.m. and ending by 10 a.m. Areas from Waco to Palestine are most likely to experience storms between 8 a.m. and noon, while locations farther south, including Killeen, face the greatest risk from noon to 4 p.m., with storms tapering off by 6 p.m.

Drivers should anticipate ponding on roadways, reduced visibility during heavier downpours and isolated travel delays where thunderstorms become more intense. Although widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated stronger storms may produce wind gusts capable of bringing down small tree limbs.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts before heading out Monday morning and allow extra travel time if thunderstorms are impacting their route. Additional statements or warnings may be issued if storms strengthen or produce heavier rainfall than currently expected.
