Hastings, NE – Nebraska is set for a dramatic weather whiplash, with near-90°F heat giving way to a rain-to-snow transition that could impact the Wednesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, highs will surge into the upper 80s to low 90s Sunday and Monday before a strong cold front pushes through Tuesday. Rain develops during the day Tuesday, with increasing coverage into the evening as temperatures begin to cool.
By late Tuesday night into early Wednesday, colder air filters in quickly, dropping temperatures into the 20s and 30s. This changeover will allow rain to mix with or transition to wet snow, especially across central Nebraska including Hastings, Grand Island, and Kearney.
Wind gusts shifting north at 15 to 25 mph could reduce visibility during any heavier bursts of snow early Wednesday. While warm ground temperatures may limit accumulation, slick spots remain possible on bridges and overpasses during the morning commute.
Residents should prepare for rapid temperature drops and changing road conditions within a 24-hour window. Conditions improve later Wednesday, but additional updates are expected as this system develops.
