Ottawa, IL – The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office has released the results of its Fourth of July holiday traffic enforcement campaign, reporting dozens of citations and one DUI arrest during the statewide safety initiative.

According to the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office, deputies participated in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns over the Independence Day holiday alongside more than 200 state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois.

During the enforcement period, deputies issued:

  • 27 speeding citations
  • 22 occupant restraint (seat belt) citations
  • 13 other traffic citations
  • 2 electronic device use citations
  • 1 driving under the influence (DUI) arrest
  • 1 traffic arrest for driving while license suspended (DWLS)

The sheriff’s office said the statewide campaign focused on removing impaired drivers from Illinois roadways while encouraging motorists and passengers to wear seat belts.

Officials said the initiative combined high-visibility traffic enforcement with public outreach efforts designed to reduce crashes and improve roadway safety during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

The Illinois Independence Day enforcement campaign is funded through federal highway safety dollars administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and supported by the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies statewide. The campaign also reinforces IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” traffic safety initiative, which highlights the real-life consequences of fatal crashes.

The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office continues to encourage motorists to buckle up, avoid distracted driving, obey speed limits, and never drive under the influence.
