Moline, IL – Dangerous heat will continue across the Quad Cities region through at least Thursday, with portions of eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois expected to see heat index values between 100 and 110 degrees each afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, an Extreme Heat Warning has been extended through Wednesday evening for areas north of Highway 30, while locations along and south of Highway 30 remain under an Extreme Heat Warning through Thursday evening.
Afternoon temperatures are expected to remain in the low to mid-90s, but high humidity will push “feels-like” temperatures well into the dangerous range. Forecasters warn that heat illnesses are likely with prolonged outdoor exposure.
Forecast heat index values include:
- Davenport: Up to 103°F Wednesday and Thursday
- Moline: Up to 104°F Thursday
- Iowa City: Up to 106°F Tuesday, 104°F Wednesday
- Cedar Rapids: Around 102°F
- Burlington: Up to 105°F
- Sterling, Illinois: Up to 106°F Tuesday and 105°F Thursday
- Freeport, Illinois: Up to 106°F
According to the National Weather Service, increasing cloud cover and thunderstorm chances later this week could begin to interrupt the prolonged stretch of extreme heat heading into the Independence Day holiday weekend, although dangerous conditions will continue through Thursday.
