Phoenix, AZ – 40+ mph wind gusts are disrupting travel through 11 a.m. MST across eastern and southeastern Phoenix metro, creating hazardous driving and reduced visibility. Strong, dry winds are sweeping across Maricopa and Pinal counties, especially in open desert corridors and higher terrain.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through late morning for eastern Maricopa County, southern Gila County, and northwest Pinal County. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are widespread, with gusts frequently exceeding 40 mph and reaching up to 55 mph in elevated areas.

Blowing dust is reducing visibility along key routes including Loop 202, US-60, and stretches of Interstate 10 east of Phoenix, particularly near Mesa, Apache Junction, and Casa Grande. High-profile vehicles are at increased risk of loss of control, especially in crosswind-prone areas. Loose outdoor objects, including patio furniture and construction materials, may become airborne and cause localized damage.

Residents are urged to delay unnecessary travel until winds ease, secure loose items, and use caution on exposed roadways. Drivers should keep both hands on the wheel and be prepared for sudden gusts.

Winds are expected to gradually weaken after 11 a.m. MST, but breezy conditions may persist into the afternoon. Additional advisories could be issued if gusts remain elevated or dust impacts worsen.
