Cincinnati, Ohio – Residents across the Ohio Valley should prepare for a major shift in the weather pattern as cooler conditions give way to increasing heat and humidity heading into the weekend and continuing through early next week.

According to the National Weather Service, a strengthening upper-level ridge will expand across the central and eastern United States, allowing warm, moisture-rich air from the Gulf to surge northward into the Ohio Valley. The result will be several days of above-normal temperatures and increasingly uncomfortable humidity levels.

Cities including Cincinnati, Louisville, Lexington, Indianapolis, Evansville, Columbus and Huntington are expected to see highs climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s by the weekend. Dewpoints are forecast to rise into the 70s, creating heat index values approaching or exceeding 100 degrees during the hottest part of the afternoon.

The combination of heat and humidity will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working outdoors, attending summer events or lacking access to air conditioning. Overnight temperatures may remain elevated as well, limiting opportunities for relief.

While occasional thunderstorms could develop and temporarily lower temperatures, forecasters expect the overall warm pattern to dominate much of next week. Additional heat advisories may become necessary if temperatures trend higher.
