Sacramento, Calif. – Bright sunshine is already taking hold across the capital region, and the warmest stretch of weather this week is beginning to come into focus. Sidewalks will heat up quickly by afternoon, while temperatures climb steadily higher each day through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service, Sacramento is expected to reach around 90 degrees Sunday before climbing to 92 degrees Monday, 94 degrees Tuesday, and 96 degrees Wednesday. Dry conditions and abundant sunshine will dominate the region through at least the middle of the week.
The warming trend is part of a broader pattern affecting much of the West. While severe thunderstorms, flash flooding, large hail, and isolated tornadoes remain concerns across portions of the Plains and Midwest, California’s primary weather story is strengthening summer heat.
Drivers along Interstate 5, Interstate 80, Highway 50, and Highway 99 should encounter favorable travel conditions. However, afternoon heat can increase vehicle stress and create dangerous conditions inside parked cars. Temperatures inside vehicles can rise rapidly even when outside readings remain below 100 degrees.
Meteorologists continue tracking a strong ridge of high pressure that will keep skies mostly clear across Northern California. Sacramento starts the day comfortably in the upper 50s but quickly warms into the upper 80s and 90s each afternoon.
Gardeners and outdoor workers should plan activities during the cooler morning hours. Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if spending extended periods outdoors.
For now, no significant storm systems are expected locally. The next several days look dry, warm, and increasingly summer-like across the Sacramento Valley.
