Shreveport, Louisiana – Water is already pooling on roads, creeks are rising, and new thunderstorms continue to move across portions of the ArkLaTex this afternoon. What begins as a rainy summer day could quickly become a dangerous travel situation in parts of northwest Louisiana.

The most urgent concern is flooding. Several Flash Flood Warnings remain in effect around the Shreveport region, while a Flood Watch continues for portions of northwest Louisiana and adjacent East Texas.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, some communities have already received 4 to 6 inches of rain, with additional rainfall possible through the afternoon. Forecasters warn that excessive runoff may rapidly flood streets, low-lying areas, drainage systems, creeks, and small streams.

Areas near Shreveport, Bossier City, Greenwood, Blanchard, Vivian, Springhill and surrounding communities remain especially vulnerable. Motorists should avoid flooded roadways and never drive around barricades. Many flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.

Travel conditions may deteriorate quickly along Interstate 20, Interstate 49, U.S. 71, and U.S. 79 if heavier downpours redevelop. Visibility can drop sharply during thunderstorms, and standing water may appear with little warning.

Meteorologists continue tracking a broader Gulf Coast pattern capable of producing localized flash flooding where storms repeatedly move over the same locations. While tornado potential remains low, isolated thunderstorms may still contain gusty winds and dangerous lightning.

The good news arrives early next week. Rain chances decrease Sunday night before hotter weather builds in. Monday is expected to reach 95 degrees, marking a rapid transition from flooding concerns to midsummer heat.

Residents should remain weather-aware through the afternoon and monitor additional warnings that may be issued.
