Virginia Beach, Virginia – Bright sunshine is taking control across the Virginia Beach coastline this Sunday, but beachgoers and travelers should enjoy the calm while it lasts. The ocean breeze feels comfortable now, yet a much warmer and more unsettled pattern is developing for the start of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, temperatures will climb into the mid-80s Sunday under sunny skies. Most neighborhoods from Virginia Beach to Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Hampton should remain dry through the day, making it one of the better outdoor days of the week.

By Monday, conditions change quickly. Meteorologists are tracking increasing humidity, breezy southerly winds, and a growing chance of afternoon thunderstorms. High temperatures are expected to reach around 93 degrees, making Monday the hottest day of the upcoming stretch.

Drivers along I-264, I-64, Shore Drive, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel should prepare for changing conditions by late afternoon Monday. Thunderstorms could develop after 2 p.m., bringing brief downpours, lightning, and localized visibility reductions. Wind gusts may approach 29 mph near stronger storms.

Plan outdoor activities early Monday if possible. Beach visitors should keep a close eye on the sky during the afternoon and move indoors immediately if thunder is heard. While widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated stronger storms cannot be completely ruled out.

Monday night remains unsettled with additional shower and thunderstorm chances continuing into the evening. Conditions improve somewhat Tuesday, although scattered showers remain possible before sunshine becomes more dominant later in the week.

The broader weather pattern favors continued summer warmth across coastal Virginia through midweek, with highs remaining in the 80s and lower 90s. Residents should stay hydrated and monitor forecast updates as heat and humidity increase.
