Northern Arizona Weather: 103°F Heat Builds This Week After Monday Storm Chances Fade

Flagstaff, Arizona – Residents across northern Arizona have one more opportunity for scattered showers and thunderstorms today before a hotter and significantly drier pattern settles over the region for the remainder of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop Monday, primarily south of Interstate 40. Winds from the west and northwest are expected to range from 10 to 20 mph, with locally stronger gusts near thunderstorms.

Temperatures today will remain warm, with highs reaching 84 degrees in Flagstaff, 91 in Prescott, 92 in Payson, 94 in Winslow and 98 in Tuba City. Isolated storms could produce brief heavy rainfall, lightning and gusty winds, especially across higher terrain during the afternoon and evening.

By Tuesday, conditions turn warmer and mostly dry across much of northern Arizona. Daily thunderstorm chances become limited and mainly confined to higher elevations near the Mogollon Rim and White Mountains.

The hottest temperatures are expected during the middle of the week. Camp Verde is forecast to reach 103 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday, while Tuba City climbs to 101 degrees Tuesday and 102 degrees Wednesday. Winslow is expected to approach 98 degrees by midweek, while Flagstaff remains in the upper 80s.

Anyone spending time outdoors should stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon heat and remain alert for lightning if thunderstorms develop today.
